Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Think of this as the healthier, heartier version of the classic box mix we all grew up with. This Upgraded Hamburger Helper uses protein-packed Kaizen lupini pasta, savory ground beef, and a rich tomato broth for a meal that is both nostalgic and nourishing. Everything comes together in one pot, so it is quick, easy, and cleanup-friendly. Perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 8 oz Kaizen lupini pasta

  • 24 oz meat stock or broth

  • 24 oz tomato sauce (marinara, your favorite brand)

  • Cheese, optional (mozzarella, Parmesan, or your favorite)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Method

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet or pot over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. Season well with salt and black pepper.

  3. Add the stock and tomato sauce, stirring to combine. Bring to a boil.

  4. Stir in the lupini pasta, making sure it is mostly submerged.

  5. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened slightly, about 12–15 minutes.

  6. Taste, adjust seasoning, and serve warm with cheese if desired.

Meal Prep Tip

Lupini pasta tends to get a bit mushy as leftovers, though the flavor is still great. For the best results, make the beef and tomato sauce ahead of time and store it in the fridge or freezer. When you are ready to eat, reheat the sauce, bring it to a boil, and then add the pasta fresh. This way you get all the convenience of meal prep with the best texture.

Nutrition Spotlight

Kaizen lupini pasta brings a serious protein and fiber boost, making this dish more balanced than the boxed version. Combined with ground beef, it creates a high-protein, family-friendly meal that satisfies hunger and energy needs. The addition of meat stock or broth not only enhances the savory flavor but also contributes minerals, collagen, and amino acids that support gut, joint, and overall health.
